Eric Zwiebel MS awarded this year’s Gerard Basset Trophy

Last week saw Eric Zwiebel MS (UKSA’s Talent and Development Director) become the unanimous winner of this year’s Gerard Basset Award.

Nina and Romané Basset presented Eric with the award which celebrates someone who has been instrumental in promoting sommellerie within the UK and is a great ambassador for all things vinous.

Eric, was the worthy winner having devoted his career to sommellerie.

Nina remarked
“A much loved protégé of my late husband, Gerard Basset, he is respected, loved and admired by his peers. He is passionate about educating others.”

“After having pursued a rewarding and successful International competition career, he recently retired from competing himself and representing the UK and is now concentrating on his role as Training Director of the UKSA. Recently, he has been instrumental in setting up the Northern chapter of the United Kingdom Sommelier Academy, with great success and has helped to swell the number of members of the “parent” UKSA association

“I have known this year’s winner since he was a very young early twenty something, which makes me
feel very old! Romané and I are personally delighted to see this year’s winner receive this trophy and we know for sure that Gerard too would be so proud of him and his achievements and the fantastic ambassador he is for sommellerie…”

Bravo Eric!
